Art and Design

Art is a highly valued subject at Carterhatch Infant School. We believe that all children are creative and that it is important to allow our young artists to express themselves by providing them with a variety of different experiences and mediums. In addition to allocated learning time, children can often be seen sketching in different environments, having independently chosen their own tools and techniques.

The children are given the opportunity to study different artists and re-create their own masterpiece in relation to whom they have been learning about. For example, year two have fun exploring the techniques and style of the artist Kandinsky. Whereas Year one had the opportunity last year to work with a local artist for the partnership art festival and created their own prints which they displayed and later sold at Enfield Town Market.

The National Curriculum for Art aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
  • Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art and craft techniques.
  • Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art.
  • Know about great artists and understand the cultural development of their art forms.
